A person who becomes addicted to opiates finds it difficult to control his behavior due to an obsessive desire for a certain chemical. This leads to drug search and re-use even despite the negative social and medical consequences. To date, there are many treatments, but for most people with opioid dependence, the most successful of these is substitution therapy.
